Drawing a Dragon Head
Step 1:
Starting in the middle of your paper, draw an irregular circle shape with a width more significant than the length. It traces the top of the dragon’s peak. Avoid pressing too hard with the pencil when outlining. It’s essential to draw with light strokes so that you can easily erase some lines that you don’t need the outline on later. To ensure that the outline is drawn in the center, draw a horizontal and vertical line that intersects on the paper and use these as reference lines. The point where the two lines meet is where you need to remove the outline of the dragon’s head.
Step 2:
Draw the dragon’s jaws at the base right of the design we drew before. Make the line slightly twisted near the jawline to create the illusion of sharp fangs. Remove overlapping contour lines with an eraser to keep your drawing clean.
Step 3:
One of the most distinctive characteristics of dragons is their vast bulging eyes. To create this effect, draw two downward curves at the top of the dragon’s head to outline the huge eye sockets, where we’ll remove the eyes in the next step.
Step 4:
Draw a full oval shape on the right side of the dragon’s face and a half-oval body on the left side to create its pair of eyes. After finishing the eyes, we will move on to creating the nose. Draw parallel curved lines on the muzzle. Then shade the bottom of the nose to create an illusion of depth. Since the dragon is looking slightly to the side, its left eye will only be half visible, as seen in the illustration.
Step 5:
Draw two parallel vertical lines below the dragon’s jaw and another line below the back of the head. Note that the lines should be slightly curved, following the natural shape of a dragon’s neck.
Step 6:
Above each eye socket, create the fins by drawing three connected pointed triangle shapes. Then draw two more similar shapes between the eyes of the dragon.
Step 7:
Continue drawing two sharp, pointed horns on the dragon’s head. Be sure to angle the horns, so they appear slightly back.
Step 8:
Dragons are also primarily known for their unique ears, with a structure quite similar to bats’ wings. Drawing the dragon’s ears is much easier than you think! Draw an elongated, curved shape to outline the tops of the ears, then draw connected curved lines with pointed edges at the bottom.
Step 9:
Drawing patterns on the dragon’s head is essential for adding texture, giving it a dimensional and realistic look. Mark two similar flat bars per funnel from top to base. Then add circular shapes of different sizes to certain parts of the surface of the dragon skin. Next, draw vertical lines at the bottom of the ear, emphasizing its pointed, pointed edges. Also, add parallel horizontal lines on the dragon’s neck!
Don’t forget to shade the eyes, leaving two oval shapes inside the eye unshaded to create a dramatic “bright eye” effect. As you can see, the drawing of a dragon head is finally finished. All it takes is a bright, vibrant color splash to make your image eye-catching! So let’s go ahead and fill in the dragon head colors in the next step.
